Digital Engineering’s Special Issue on The Democratization of Technology

Democratization of TechnologyIt’s easy to forget that we have the power of yesterday’s supercomputers in today’s desktop workstations and the power of yesterday’s workstations in the phones in our pockets. That sets a high bar. We now expect the same ease of use when it comes to tapping into HPC resources on-premise or in the cloud, or tapping on our screens to use advanced design and simulation software. We are not there yet, but as the articles in this Digital Engineering democratization compilation issue show: Many vendors are addressing the logistics, engineering challenges and Return on Investment (ROI) needed to make transformative technologies accessible to all. Inside this Special Issue you will find articles about: Preparing for the HPC floodgates to open; A new virtual reality; Fromm All-in-One to Pick-What-You-Want CAD; Designing the future of manufacturing; What’s happening to cluster computing on-premise and in the cloud; The implications of simulation’s app-ification; and The democratization of PLM.
